INVITATION FOR ADMISSION INTO ORDINARY DIPLOMA
AND CERTIFICATE PROGRAMMES OFFERED BY ATC FOR
THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2014/2015
Applications are invited from qualified candidates for Ordinary Diploma (OD) and Basic
Technician Certificate in Engineering, Sciences & Technology programmes tenable at the
Arusha Technical College for the academic year 2014/15.
1. ORDINARY DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES
1.1 DIRECT ENTRY SCHEME
a) COURSES OFFERED
The scheme provide an opportunity to successful applicants to join the College in a
three years courses leading to Ordinary Diploma (OD) in one of the following
programmes: Laboratory Sciences and Technology; or Computer Science; or
Information Technology; or Auto-electric & Electronics Engineering; or
Automotive Engineering; or Civil Engineering; or Civil & Irrigation
Engineering; or Electrical Engineering; or Electronics & Telecommunication
Engineering; or Mechanical Engineering; or Transportation Engineering; or
Electrical and Biomedical Engineering.
b) ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
i) Qualified candidates must have a good Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE)
with a minimum pass of “C” grade in Physics or Engineering Science,
Mathematics and Chemistry or English. Applicants of Laboratory Sciences &
Technology and Electrical and Biomedical Engineering programme must have
passed Chemistry and Biology in addition to the above requirements

ii) Or Holders of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with
passes in all subjects listed above including a minimum pass of C grade in two (2)
subjects, plus relevant work experience and employer’s recommendation.
iii) For applicants aspiring to pursue diploma in Computer Science or Information
Technology, must be holders of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination
(CSEE) with minimum pass of grade C in any three subjects excluding
Religious, Nutrition, and Needle work subjects Or be Holders of Basic Technician
Certificate in Computer Science or Information Technology from any recognized
Institution.
c) SCHOLARSHIP/SPONSORSHIP
i) Tanzanian female applicants admitted to these programmes except for Computer
Science and Information Technology will be granted Government sponsorship
(Subsidized tuition fee, meal, and Industrial Practical Training expenses).
Accommodation is the responsibility of the Candidate
ii) Qualified male applicants will be admitted under private sponsorship to all
programmes unless selected for Mechanical Engineering or Auto-electric &
Electronics engineering where Government Sponsorship will be granted.
1.2 INDIRECT ENTRY SCHEME
1.2.1 PRE-ENTRY/ACCESS COURSE
a) COURSES OFFERED
Pre-entry/Access is a bridging course for FEMALE and MALE candidates aspiring
to join Ordinary Diploma course in the fields of: Laboratory Sciences and
Technology; Computer Science; Information Technology; Auto-electric &
Electronics Engineering; Automotive Engineering; Civil Engineering; Civil &
Irrigation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics &
Telecommunication Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; or Transportation
Engineering; or Electrical and Biomedical Engineering. It is an eight (8) week
programme to be held tentatively from May 19th to 12th July 2014 at Arusha
Technical College.
b) ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Qualified candidates must be Holders of Certificate of Secondary Education
Examination (CSEE) with minimum pass of D grade in three (3) of the following
subjects: Physics/ Engineering Science, Mathematics, and Biology or Chemistry or
any other related technical subject.

c) SCHOLARSHIP/SPONSORSHIP
(i) Tanzanian female applicants admitted to all College programmes except for
Computer Science and Information Technology will be granted Government
sponsorship (Subsidized tuition fee, meal, and Industrial Practical Training
expenses) in competitive basis. Accommodation is the responsibility of the
Candidate
(ii) Qualified male applicants will be admitted under private sponsorship to all
programmes.
1.2.2 NVA BRIDGING COURSES
This is a ten week special programme for applicants with NVA (National Vocational
Awards) or equivalent qualification aspiring to join NTA programmes. NVA
Bridging course will be held tentatively from May 5th to 12th July 2014 at Arusha
Technical College. Successful candidates will be admitted to NTA Level 4 or NTA
Level 5 subject to the qualification of the applicant.
a) COURSES OFFERED
Successful candidates in NVA BRIDGING COURSES will be admitted to NTA
Level 4 or NTA Level 5 in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
programmes.
b) ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
(i) Candidate aiming to be admitted at NTA Level 4 should be a Holder of
Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) and possess NVA
level II or Trade test II in relevant field recognized by VETA.
(ii) Candidate aiming to be admitted at NTA Level 5 should be a Holder
of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) and poses NVA
level III or Trade test I in relevant field recognized by VETA.
c) SCHOLARSHIP/SPONSORSHIP
(i) Tanzanian female applicants admitted through this entry scheme will be
granted Government sponsorship (Subsidized tuition fee, meal, and Industrial
Practical Training expenses) in competitive basis. Accommodation is the
responsibility of the Candidate
(ii) Qualified male applicants will be admitted under private sponsorship to all
programmes.

1.3 TUITION AND ACCOMMODATION FEE DURING PRE-ENTRY AND NVA
BRIDGING COURSES
The College is working on getting financial support from Tanzania Education Authority
(TEA) to provide free meals and accommodation to successful Tanzanian Female
Candidates from both Pre-entry and NVA Bridging Courses while other successful
candidates will be responsible for their meals, accommodation and tuition fee expenses as
shown in Table 1.

2. BASIC TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATES
2.1 BASIC TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE IN LAPIDARY AND JEWELLERY
TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMME
Applications are invited from qualified candidates for the Basic Technician Certificate
(NTA Level 4), a one year course in Lapidary and Jewelry Technology.
a) ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Application is open to:
Holders of Certificates of Secondary School Education (CSSE) with minimum
of “D” grade in Basic Mathematics, Physics, English, and any other two
subjects or
i) Holders of Certificates of Secondary School Education (CSSE) and
certificate of VETA in Trade Test II or higher or
ii) Holders of Certificates of Secondary School Education (CSSE) and have
been working in the Lapidary and Jewellery field for not less than three
years from the date of application or
iii) Holders of Certificates of Secondary School Education (CSSE) with prior
learning experience from informal sector subject to passing admission
interview (Matriculation) run by the College.

b) SCHOLARSHIP/SPONSORSHIP
All qualified applicants will be admitted under private sponsorship.
2.2 BASIC TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT)
Applications are invited from qualified candidates for the Basic Technician Certificate
(NTA Level 4), a one year course in Information Technology.
a) ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Application is open to:
i) Holders of Certificates of Secondary School Education (CSSE) with
minimum of “D” grade in any four subjects except Religious, Nutrition, and
Needle work subjects
ii) Or Holders of Certificates of Secondary School Education (CSSE) with prior
learning experience from informal sector. Candidates may be admitted into
Basic Technician Certificate ITafter sitting for and passing eight week pre
entry course.
b) SCHOLARSHIP/SPONSORSHIP
All qualified applicants will be admitted under private sponsorship.
3. MODE OF APPLICATION
Application forms for Ordinary Diploma and Basic Technician Certificate Programmes
can be obtained from the Office of Registrar at the Arusha Technical College or can be
downloaded from the College website: http://www.atc.ac.tz.
Application forms will only be considered if accompanied by:
i) A non-refundable application fee of TZS. 20,000/= (TZS twenty thousand only)
paid directly to Tanzania Postal Bank (TPB), Account Name: ATC Students
Collection Account, Account No: 0260000398.
Please ensure that your name (name of applicant) appear in the Bank slip/Payin
Slip.
ii) Certified copies of relevant certificates such CSEE, academic transcripts/ National
Examination statements of results or results slip.
iii) Two coloured passport size personal photographs taken within the last six months.
